Father Watches His 16-Year-Old Girl Die, Gets Arrested After Taking Matters Into His Own Hands

Shannon Hamilton, father of 16-year-old Cecily Mcree Hamilton, who tragically died in a car crash in Gainesville, Georgia, faced arrest while attempting to build a higher guardrail on the bridge where the incident occurred. After witnessing the retrieval of his daughter’s car from the river below, Hamilton emphasized the need for a guardrail, a sentiment echoed by local officials awaiting approval for the construction.

Feeling the urgency, Hamilton, frustrated with the slow progress, brought his excavator to the bridge. His plan involved creating a temporary berm to prevent further accidents. White County deputies intervened, leading to Hamilton’s arrest for interference with government property. Despite this, Hamilton, released on bail, received community support.

Expressing a commitment to prevent similar tragedies, Hamilton advocates for bridge safety, sharing his experience at Cecily’s high school, emphasizing the uncertainty of tomorrow.
