Ohio high school senior Cameron Blasek is being praised for his refusal to remove the American flag from his truck, supported by the American Legion. Blasek’s defiance stemmed from his belief in displaying patriotism. Despite school officials’ initial request to take it down, Blasek persisted, stating, “All I ever wanted… was just to fly the American flag.” The school later reversed its decision, acknowledging the flag’s significance as a symbol of unity and national identity. Blasek’s stance received recognition with the Red, White and Blue Award and $3,000 for his courage.
Reflecting on his actions, Blasek emphasized the flag’s unifying role, asserting, “The flag is a symbol of unity in this country.” U.S. Army veteran Jean Wilson commended Blasek for defending his beliefs, stating, “The American flag means a lot… defending our country for people to have the right to choose, have the right to say what they believe in, just as Cameron did. It’s so important.”
