Rep. Jeff van Drew, Former Democrat, Blasts Biden’s Handling of Migrant Housing Plan as ‘Disastrous for America’

Rep. Jeff van Drew of New Jersey made headlines when he left the Democratic Party in 2019, citing the party’s shift towards radical left ideas as incompatible with his values. He’s now a vocal critic of the Biden Administration, going so far as to label it the worst in American history.

Van Drew’s departure from the Democrats stemmed from a demand by his county chairman that he vote in favor of President Trump’s impeachment, a move he considered out of line with his principles. Recounting the incident, he said, “I have to speak with you,’ and I said, ‘sure’ and sat down. He said, ‘I just want to let you know that you have to vote for impeachment.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘You’ve got to vote for impeachment. If you don’t, you’re not going to be able to run in my county.’”

He added, “For all the years that I have worked so hard and tried to give so much, not only to the party, but to everybody… it all boils down to one vote, that I may have my own individual opinion on one vote and that is not going to be allowed? I’m going to be punished for that? And that’s when I knew.”

Now, as a member of the GOP, Rep. van Drew is free to challenge the Biden Administration’s policies, including its handling of the surge of illegal immigrants entering the country. He is particularly opposed to the plan to house migrants in his New Jersey district.

During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends,” the congressman expressed his strong opposition to the plan, vowing to fight it “with every ounce of strength.” He called it the wrong approach, emphasizing that the consequences of the southern border crisis are being felt nationwide, not just in border states. This is not just an Arizona problem, or a Texas problem or a California problem. This is a United States of America problem,” van Drew asserted. He also expressed concern about the impact of the plan on his constituents, saying, “And now they want to come into our beautiful county, our beautiful South Jersey, and try to ruin that as well.”

Additionally, van Drew highlighted the national defense implications of housing migrants at the New Jersey Atlantic City International Airport. He pointed out the presence of the FAA technical center and the F-16s from the Air National Guard’s 177 fighter wing, which play a crucial role in the defense of Washington, D.C. and New York City.
