A Clearwater, Florida, woman faced carjackers, resulting in a fatal confrontation. Jernalen Dreshaw Coleman, 17, and Lasupta Singletary, 18, met Louise Ornduff and her son for a car sale, turning violent when the armed suspects demanded the car keys. After the thieves fled in the stolen car, Ornduff, armed herself, fired a shot, hitting Singletary. While Coleman drove to a hospital, Singletary succumbed to injuries, leading to a second-degree murder charge for Coleman.
The police investigation involves scrutinizing surveillance footage and witness accounts to determine if self-defense is valid. Both suspects had a criminal history. Clearwater PD Deputy Chief Eric Gandy noted, “Based on their history and the armed robbery, leads something to their character.” Public opinions varied, with some supporting the mother’s actions as justified self-defense against criminals. One commenter said, “People are tired of working hard and getting robbed by punks.”
