Man blasts cave turning it into a 5,700 square foot home that’s completely off the grid

Imagine a unique home, a testament to human ingenuity and a love for nature. Grant Johnson’s cave house, crafted over 20 years, is a marvel featuring a music studio and modern decor. Grant’s private inholding allowed him the freedom to create this incredible dwelling, ingeniously incorporating running water and electricity.

A previous renter expressed awe, calling it “one of the wonders of the modern world.” Grant’s journey began during his education, exploring hiking and working in local mines, leading to a deep appreciation for the wilderness.

Embracing an off-the-grid lifestyle, Grant sought a canyon spot for self-sustenance. Building the home required dynamite and eight winters of dedication. The cave, surprisingly well-lit with windows blasted into the rock, offers stunning views.

Grant’s sustainable lifestyle includes growing his own food and raising animals. Twenty years later, his land stands as a beautiful and sustainable example of alternative living. Grant’s cave home, with its blend of nature, innovation, and sustainable living, continues to inspire.
