This seasoned Hollywood actor faced rejection both on-screen and at home. Despite his struggles, he emerged stronger and shared the one thing that he says “saved” his life.
Raised in an emotionally neglectful home, he described his childhood as “really bad,” where “everyone was extremely unhappy.” His parents divorced, and he spent years in a boarding house, feeling isolated. His mother’s painful words stuck with him: “‘The only reason you’re here is because the hanger didn’t work.'” He later understood that her own traumatic past in a “very cruel orphanage” shaped her inability to show love.
Expelled from 13 schools, he was labeled a misfit. Military schools followed, and later, arriving in NYC with little money, he slept in a bus station. Struggling as an actor, he feared being stuck as a “professional extra” since he “didn’t fit a certain mold.” A facial nerve issue and later surgery added to his challenges.
Rejections piled up, but he refused to give up. Through freezing winters, he held onto one thing: “That coat saved my life.” It kept him warm, but his relentless determination is what truly carried him through.
