In 2016, a family in Thailand found a tiny kitten wandering alone and contacted the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT). “Upon inspection, they realized it was no ordinary cat,” WFFT reported. The kitten was identified as a rare fishing cat, a vulnerable species threatened by wetland destruction. The family named him Simba and cared for him after his mother never returned. “Poaching and retribution killing are major threats,” WFFT warned, highlighting the significance of Simba’s survival. Simba grew up healthy, becoming a symbol of hope for his endangered breed.
