Donald Trump clashed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting at the White House on February 28. The heated exchange began when Trump accused Zelenskyy of being ungrateful for US support and warned him against risking a global conflict. “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people! You’re gambling with World War Three!” Trump said.
The disagreement ended abruptly, with Zelenskyy leaving the White House early before a planned news conference. US Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s criticism, saying Zelenskyy should be “thanking” America for trying to end the war.
The Kremlin commented on the clash, suggesting it showed how difficult peace negotiations would be. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “The Kyiv regime and Zelenskyy do not want peace. They want the war to continue.”
Following the dispute, Zelenskyy traveled to the UK for a summit with 18 world leaders, where he expressed his commitment to peace and cooperation with America. “We are all working together… for a true peace and guaranteed security,” he stated.
Despite the fallout, Zelenskyy refused to apologize, saying the argument did not contribute positively to peace efforts.
