A child’s birthday is a cherished event, filled with cake, presents, and the joy of being the center of attention. Angel Craine, a mom in Queensland, Australia, eagerly planned her son Malachi’s 5th birthday party, but her excitement turned to heartbreak when no kids were willing to attend. The reason behind this was the heartbreaking part – Malachi’s friends’ parents refused to let their children attend because Angel intended to serve a vegan cake. The disapproval of their vegan lifestyle led to Malachi being bullied. His invitations went unanswered, and his peers demanded a cake with “cow” in it.
Angel decided to turn to the Vegans of Australia Facebook community for help. She shared her predicament and received a positive response from the members, with 12 children willing to attend Malachi’s birthday party, children who share his vegan values.
It’s unfortunate that judgment based on beliefs and lifestyle can affect even young children’s friendships.
