Hidden cameras in seemingly innocent coat hooks have been discovered in public restrooms and hotel rooms, posing a disturbing invasion of privacy. The MCSO reported three recent incidents in Florida, stating, “Miniature cameras hidden in coat hooks were found mounted on the walls in women’s restrooms.” These covert devices can be easily missed due to their inconspicuous appearance.
Lt. Randy Reynolds of the Wichita Police Department’s $ex Crimes Unit warned, “The device is not something that would stand out; they could be in changing rooms anywhere.” What’s even more concerning is that these gadgets are readily available for as little as $20 to $50, with some even advertising their ability to conceal cameras with the slogan, “No one will suspect a clothes hook of concealing a camera.”
To identify these hidden cameras, look for standard plastic coat hooks with a small opening at the top, which serves as the lens. Some may have a side button to activate the motion sensor. Be vigilant, as they can easily blend in with their surroundings, making them difficult to detect.
