Jana Hocking, a sex and dating columnist, attended a \$15,000 “Back to Body Sex Retreat” in Joshua Tree, California, aimed at helping women reconnect with sexual pleasure. Speaking on the *Just Between Us* podcast, she said many participants were “either getting divorced… or needed to learn how to enjoy sex again.”
The retreat began with group discussions, then moved into intimate sessions like tantric meditation led by founder Pamela Madsen. In one exercise, women “held their vulvas” while affirming personal goals. Jana’s aim was to stop “performing” orgasms and explore whether she was having “a real orgasm.”
A controversial moment included Madsen receiving 30 minutes of foreplay from a male assistant in front of the group. Another involved a urologist’s anatomy demonstration using Madsen as a model.
Jana, the only attendee who didn’t climax, still left feeling more self-aware: “I’m more equipped to reach climax on my own terms.”
While the retreat drew mixed online reactions, she stressed it encouraged women to prioritize their own pleasure—a topic often overlooked in mainstream conversations about intimacy.
