People are coming out as ‘Berrisexual’ – here’s what it means

New terms describing attraction continue to appear, and “berrisexual” is one of the latest. As the article notes, “there are new ways, new labels for one to define their experiences of attraction being created constantly.” While the writer isn’t against this shift, they admit “it can all get a bit confusing,” given the expanding range of identities people use to describe themselves.

The term has gained attention online, especially on Reddit. One early definition describes a berrisexual person as “someone attracted to women and feminine genders and androgynous genders, but also very rarely attracted to men and masculine genders.” In simple terms, attraction can exist toward all genders, but it is typically stronger toward women and nonbinary or androgynous people, and less frequent toward men.

Despite being new, the label resonates with some people. One Reddit user shared, “Many people don’t know about berris**ual, and we need more representation!” Another added, “Now I don’t have to pick because berri fits like a glove,” showing how the term helps individuals better express their identity.

Berrisexuality is considered a micro-label, more specific than broader identities like bisexual or pansexual. According to one explanation, “Berrisexuality is about attraction to all genders… you can always date a man.” However, the key difference lies in the intensity and frequency of that attraction.

Similar to pansexuality or omnisexuality, berrisexuality includes attraction across genders, but with a distinct pattern. Attraction toward men is typically “rarer or less strong,” making the label useful for those who feel existing terms don’t fully capture their experience.
