White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter identified

The ballroom erupted in chaos before anyone fully understood it. Gunfire echoed, cameras froze, and glass shattered as panic spread through the crowd. In the confusion, the president was rushed off stage while some attendees tried to steady themselves by chanting “God Bless America,” even as fear took over. Moments later, the alleged attacker was pinned to the floor, surrounded by weapons, ending a scene that turned a formal evening into sudden terror.

The incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where top officials, journalists, and political figures had gathered. According to reports, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a teacher from California, forced his way past security carrying a shotgun, handgun, and knives. Witnesses heard up to six shots as he moved toward the ballroom, triggering immediate response from security.

A Secret Service agent was struck during the confrontation, though his protective vest likely prevented serious injury. Agents quickly subdued Allen, stopping what could have become a far more deadly situation. Inside, guests were left shaken as the event abruptly collapsed into confusion, sirens, and emergency lockdowns.

During the evacuation, President Trump briefly stumbled but was safely escorted away. Later, he reappeared at the White House, calling the suspect a “sick” lone wolf and praising the “quick and brave” actions of law enforcement. His remarks reflected both relief and concern over the breach.

Prosecutors have since filed serious federal charges against Allen, including firearms and assault offenses, with more expected as investigations continue. What was meant to be a night celebrating journalism instead ended in fear, disruption, and a stark reminder of how quickly public events can turn dangerous.
