Last surviving member of the Ronettes dies aged 80

Nedra Talley Ross once stood at the center of pop music’s loudest moment—big hair, sharp eyeliner, and harmonies that defined a generation. As a member of The Ronettes, her voice helped create songs that could stop a teenage heart mid-beat and leave a lasting mark on music history.

After reaching that height, she made a rare choice. Instead of staying in the spotlight, she stepped away from the “dog-eat-dog” world of fame. She chose a quieter path built on faith, family, and personal purpose, leaving behind the pressures that had once surrounded her.

Her life after music was grounded and meaningful. She devoted herself to Christian music, worked in real estate, and focused on raising her four children with her husband, Scott Ross. Faith remained central to her life, guiding her decisions and sustaining her over the years.

When she passed, the news came not through formal announcements but through her daughter’s heartfelt words, saying she “went home to be with the Lord,” surrounded by love. The simplicity of that message reflected the life Nedra chose to live—far from fame, but rich in meaning.

Tributes followed, honoring not just a performer but a woman whose journey went beyond music. With her passing, the original Ronettes lineup is no more. Yet her legacy endures every time “Be My Baby” plays, bringing listeners back to a moment when three young women transformed pop music—and to a voice that still echoes through time.
