Kindness often begins at home and then extends out to include our neighbors. 31-year-old actor Chris Salvatore took this concept of neighborly love to a extraordinarily great heights.
Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Chris met his 89-year-old neighbor, Norma Cook. At the time, Norma was alone with no one except her cat to keep her company.
Chris began visiting her regularly so that she wouldn’t feel lonely. Soon a unique friendship grew from shared celebrations and cozy pizza nights. It wasn’t long before a deep bond formed between Chris and Norma.
However, life took a painful turn when Norma was diagnosed with leukemia. As her medical bills grew and grew, Chris turned to social media for support. He launched a GoFundMe campaign, which raised over $30,000 overnight, a testament to the love people everywhere had for Norma. But those funds didn’t last long, so Chris made a generous offer. He invited Norma to live with him, saving her from worrying about her cost of living and ensuring she received the medial care she needed.
Chris saw the arrangement as mutually beneficial. He said Norma’s presence reminded him of the essence of life – family, love, and kindness. Norma, too, was grateful. Her final years were spent in a warm, loving environment, which is what she had always wished for.
