An active shooter incident occurred early Thursday morning at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, just north of Detroit. The situation began around 7:08 a.m. when reports of gunfire in the parking garage triggered immediate panic, emergency alerts, and a full hospital lockdown.
Authorities later confirmed that the suspect was a hospital employee who targeted a 25-year-old coworker. The victim was shot twice in the arm during the attack. While the motive has not yet been revealed, the fact that both individuals worked at the same hospital added concern and shock to the incident.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and the victim was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment. Despite the seriousness of the injuries, medical staff were able to stabilize him. He is currently in stable condition and expected to recover.
During the incident, patients, visitors, and hospital staff were placed under lockdown as law enforcement secured the area. The suspect was later taken into custody without further violence. Once the scene was declared safe, restrictions began to lift and normal operations gradually resumed.
The event caused major disruption across the hospital and raised serious concerns about workplace safety in healthcare settings. As investigations continue, the hospital is also reviewing its internal security procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of both staff and patients.
