Iconic entertainer d!es aged 68

New Zealand is mourning the loss of Dame Jools Topp, one half of the beloved The Topp Twins. She passed away at the age of 68 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2006, and although she faced years of treatment and recovery, the disease returned in 2021. Her passing has deeply saddened fans across the country and beyond.

For more than 50 years, Jools performed alongside her twin sister, Dame Lynda Topp. Together, they became national icons through their country music, comedy, and memorable characters. Their performances brought laughter to generations and created a connection with audiences that few entertainers ever achieve.

Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, describing Jools as “wise, courageous, generous, inspiring, and funny.” These words capture the spirit that made her so admired, both on stage and in everyday life. She was known for her warmth, her strength, and her ability to lift others even during difficult times.

Jools was more than an entertainer. She was also a passionate voice for justice and equality. She spoke out against racism, sexism, and homophobia, and strongly supported LGBTQ+ rights and a nuclear-free Pacific. Her activism reflected her belief in fairness, kindness, and using her public platform to create positive change.

In 2018, Jools and Lynda were appointed Dames Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for their contributions to entertainment and social causes. It was a proud recognition of decades of work that shaped New Zealand culture.

Fans and public figures continue sharing tributes, remembering her for her laughter, compassion, and talent. Dame Jools Topp leaves behind a powerful legacy of “courage, humor, music, and kindness,” one that will continue to inspire for generations.
