‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Melrose Place’ actor dies at 57

The sudden death of Patrick Muldoon at age 57 has left fans reflecting on a long career in television and film. Reports say he suffered a heart attack at his Beverly Hills home. According to his sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, he had been having coffee with his girlfriend before going to take a shower. When he did not return, he was later found unconscious in the bathroom, and emergency responders were unable to revive him.

Muldoon became widely known for his role on Days of Our Lives, where he played Austin Reed in the early 1990s and returned years later. His work helped define a generation of daytime drama with emotional intensity and consistency. Speaking about his return, he once said, “It was like going to high school… The same people are there, the people I really enjoyed in the ’90s I still enjoy working with today.” He also showed a different side in Melrose Place, where he played the more antagonistic Richard Hart.

On the big screen, he gained lasting recognition in Starship Troopers as Zander Barcalow, a role in the cult science-fiction film. He described his long-standing interest in the genre, saying, “I’ve always been a comic book fan… I’ve always loved that science fiction stuff even as a kid.”

Beyond these roles, Muldoon appeared in shows like Who’s the Boss? and Saved by the Bell, and continued acting in later films including Vanquish and Marlowe. He also worked as a producer through Storyboard Productions and was involved in upcoming projects such as Kockroach. His final film, Dirty Hands, is expected to be released later this year.

He is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart, his parents, and his sister. His legacy remains tied to a steady, versatile career across decades of television and film, remembered for both range and consistency.
