Multiple people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a serious **“seven-car crash on I-5”** in Portland, Oregon, near the Nyberg Street off-ramp. Emergency crews were called around 4 p.m. after initial reports indicated a major collision involving multiple vehicles and possible entrapments.
When Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVFR) arrived, early information suggested one vehicle was overturned with the driver trapped inside. Soon after, Tualatin police confirmed the situation was more severe than first believed, reporting that several cars were involved and a second person was also trapped in another vehicle that was on its side. The scale of the crash prompted an immediate coordinated rescue response from multiple emergency teams.
Firefighters worked quickly to stabilize the scene before attempting rescues. According to TVFR, crews used specialized equipment, including a system of struts and shoring devices, to prevent the damaged vehicles from shifting while trapped occupants were being freed. This careful stabilization was necessary due to the unstable positions of the vehicles and the risk of further injury during extraction.
Rescue teams were eventually able to remove both trapped individuals from separate cars. Both victims were reported to be in critical condition and were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Authorities have not yet released further updates on their conditions.
In addition to the two critically injured individuals, four other people involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, those individuals did not require hospitalization, though they were evaluated at the scene by emergency responders.
The crash caused significant disruption along the interstate as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision. Officials have not yet determined what caused the multi-vehicle crash, and an investigation is ongoing. Traffic in the area was affected while emergency personnel secured the scene and ensured all injured individuals received appropriate care.
