A heartbreaking and utterly tragic accident has left a community in mourning after the loss of little Ember Renee Southard, who was just 6 months old.
Her brief time on Earth came to a devastating end on March 14. According to WFLA, Ember, from Bibb County, Alabama, tragically lost her life following a dog attack at a family member’s home in Shelby County. The attack happened while her mother, Anna, was taking her grandmother to a doctor’s appointment. “They hadn’t been gone for more than 20 minutes,” Anna shared.
When Anna returned, she found Ember lifeless. “She fell to her knees in the driveway,” bleeding from the impact. Ember had been mauled by an 11-year-old American Bully—a family pet that had never harmed anyone before. Despite desperate efforts by doctors, Ember passed away at 1:10 p.m.
Police confirm both dogs in the house were quarantined. The Alabaster Police are investigating, but no charges have been filed yet.
“She had the sweetest smile,” Anna said. “There wasn’t a soul that met her that didn’t absolutely love her. There was never a more perfect baby than my noodle.”
