Mom received criticism for posting pictures of her kid performing housework, such as cleaning and cooking, online.

In today’s society, tasks are often gender-stereotyped, with certain responsibilities assigned to boys or girls. While boys are expected to excel in tools and sports, girls are confined to cooking and house chores. When boys engage in traditionally female tasks, it’s met with humor and surprise.

Nicole Boulogne, a single mother from Michigan, faced criticism for showcasing her 7-year-old son doing household chores online. Critics argued against males participating in domestic tasks. Despite this, Nicole emphasizes independence in her parenting, believing it benefits her children in the long run.

Nicole’s eldest child already handles basic housework, yard duties, and cooking. She plans to instill the same skills in her toddler when older. Defending her approach, Nicole states, “I teach my kid how to cook and take care of the house because he could one day be a single man living alone.”

Research supports Nicole’s stance, showing that children engaging in household activities learn responsibility and valuable life skills. Despite criticism, Nicole’s parenting stands as a testament to breaking stereotypes, preparing her children for a more equitable future.
