A Cherished Figure From a Classic Piece of American Television History Has Sadly Left Us

Melissa Gilbert has paid tribute to beloved actor and stuntman Jack Lilley, who has died at the age of 91. Best known for his work on Little House on the Prairie and many classic western productions, Lilley built a respected career through his talent, dedication, and generous spirit. Gilbert announced his passing in an emotional social media post on March 21, remembering him as someone who shaped both her career and childhood.

As a young actress, Gilbert treasured the time she spent with Lilley, especially when he patiently taught her how to ride horses. She recalled running up to him with excitement, asking, “Can we go ride? Please, please, please?” According to Gilbert, he never turned her down, making those moments some of her happiest memories. His kindness and willingness to mentor others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Throughout his career, Lilley worked as both an accomplished actor and stuntman. He served as Victor French’s photo double and appeared in several roles on Little House on the Prairie, earning respect for his versatility and professionalism. Whether performing dangerous stunts or stepping into different characters, he brought authenticity and passion to every project.

Lilley also appeared in memorable films, including Blazing Saddles, expanding his legacy beyond television. His work reflected years of experience, creativity, and commitment to entertaining audiences while supporting fellow actors behind the scenes.

Although Jack Lilley is gone, his influence remains through the many productions he helped create and the people whose lives he touched. Melissa Gilbert described him as not only a gifted performer but also one of her favorite people, and his patience, warmth, and generosity ensure he will be remembered fondly by colleagues, friends, and fans for generations to come.
