Target has revealed the closure of nine stores across four states due to rampant theft and organized retail crime. The company’s efforts to combat theft, including increasing security staff and using theft-deterrent tools, have proven insufficient. The affected areas are as follows:
New York City Market:
- Harlem: 517 E 117th St. 96 stores in New York City will remain open.
Seattle Market:
- Seattle University Way: 4535 University Way NE
- Seattle Ballard: 1448 NW Market St., Ste. 100 22 stores in Seattle will remain open.
San Francisco/Oakland Market:
- SF Folsom and 13th St: 1690 Folsom St.
- Oakland Broadway & 27th: 2650 Broadway
- Pittsburg: 4301 Century Blvd. 32 stores in San Francisco/Oakland will remain open.
Portland Market:
- Portland Galleria: 939 SW Morrison St.
- Portland Powell: 3031 SE Powell Blvd.
- Portland Hollywood: 4030 NE Halsey St. 15 stores in Portland will remain open.
Target urges affected shoppers to visit Target.com, and there are over 150 open stores in the affected markets. The company is also increasing security and collaborating with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to address the issue.
