At the 97th Academy Awards, Mikey Madison, 25, clinched the Best Actress award for her role in “Anora,” surpassing 62-year-old Demi Moore, who had been the clear front-runner for her performance in “The Substance.”
“Anora” dominated the evening with five wins, including Best Picture and Best Director for Sean Baker.
Other notable winners included Zoe Saldana, who won Best Supporting Actress for “Emilia Pérez,” and Adrien Brody, who secured Best Actor for “The Brutalist.”
Kieran Culkin opened the awards with a Best Supporting Actor win for “A Real Pain.”
Despite her disappointment, Moore maintained her composure, applauding Madison’s victory.
